the library: candle colors and correspondences


The following is a list of colors and their most common meanings for use in rituals, candle magick, and spellwork. Many, however, choose their own colors to match their intentions. Color can be a very personal thing and as you charge your candles yourself, it seems only logical that this can be done.

BLACK: Aids in opening the deep levels of the unconscious and achieving a deep meditative state, banishes evil or negativity. Also can be used to remove the energy of negative influences.

BLUE, DARK: Puts an end to negative situations, fosters a deep meditational state.

BLUE, LIGHT: Aids in devotional or inspirational meditations; brings peace and tranquillity to the home, helps to synthesize or balance a situation.

BLUE: Use to obtain wisdom, harmony, inner light or peace. Aids in seeking guidance or the truth.

BROWN: Use for material increase; increased decisiveness, improve powers of concentration, increases financial success, aids in locating items that that have been lost. An earthly color that may be used to increase overall balance or to find balance in a specific situation.

GREEN, DARK: Use to counteract the influences of ambition, greed, and jealousy.

GREEN: Use for prosperity, fertility, success, harmony, and rejuvination. Use in rituals for good luck and money.

GREY: A neutral color that aids meditation when complex issues are being considered. As with white, this neurtal color can be used in place of other colors when there is a need.

GOLD: Brings understanding and attracts the powers of cosmic influences. Can be in rituals intended to bring about fast luck or money. Also used in rituals needing solar energy and on the altar to represent the God of the Sun.

MAGENTA: Combines the properties of red and purple and can energize rituals, encourage immediate action and high levels of power, and/or spiritual healing.

ORANGE: Use for creativity, increasing confidence and the ability to speak one's mind, ambition, career and legal matters.

PINK: For romance and friendship, the standard color for rituals to draw love and honor into one's life. Also used to represent femininity.

PURPLE: Use for power, success, idealism, psychic manifestations, ambition, independence, and financial rewards. Also used to make contact with the spiritual world.

RED: Use to increase health, passion, love, fertility, strength, courage, and will power.

SILVER: Removes negativity, encourages stability, and development of psychic abilities. Also used in rituals needing lunar energy and on the altar to represent the Goddess of the Moon.

WHITE: Use for spiritual enlightenment, cleansing, clairvoyance, healing, and seeking the truth. A balance of all colors and may be substituted for any other color should you have a need if charged with the proper intention. Also used in rituals requiring lunar energy.

YELLOW: Use for creativity, unity, and imagination. Use in rituals that require solar energy.
